Assessing FAQ

  • What is the Town of Salem's Tax Rate and Ratio?

    The Tax rate is $20.14(year 2011). The assessment ratio is 100%.

  • What does it mean that the towns' ratio is 100%?

    This means that the town is assessing at 100% of market value as of April 1, 2011. 

  • What information can I get from the Vision website?

  • Specific data available includes lot size, ownership and sales information, photos, sketches, outbuildings and specific data as pertains to the age and size of the building along with the number of rooms, baths, bedrooms and other construction details.

  • Where can I get information on exemptions?

  • Who must sign up as a Resident?

    Anyone between the ages of 18-65 as of April 1 must sign up as a resident in the Assessor's Office. You will need to bring proof of residence. This must be done prior to registering a vehicle with the Town.

  • What is the Abatement Process and its Deadlines?

    You must file in writing with the Assessor's Office by March 1st following the fall tax bill. Forms are available in the Assessor's Office.
